Mindfulness seems to be all over the news at the moment, but what exactly is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is living in the moment, not projecting forward about what is to come, or thinking about the past. It is a state of consciousness without criticism, so you can react to a situation in a non-reactive and constructive way.
Why is mindfulness so important?
Life throws at us good and bad situations that can be very stressful and demanding. How we deal with these situations is important to our overall wellbeing. Mindfulness trains the brain to be happy, calm, more peaceful and positive.
How to practice mindfulness?
· Notice your thoughts without reacting to them, just observe and be aware of your feelings.
· Only do one thing at a time – focus on what you are doing.
· Do things slowly so you can feel things fully.
· Spend 5 mins each day doing nothing.
